Terms of forest nursery and planting material

Forest nursery is a set of buildings, facilities and woodlands or other lands with technical and technological equipment used for cultivation of planting material of forest woody trees intended for artificial restoration of forests and afforestation.

Planting material of forest woody trees

  • Seedlings – plants grown from seed where the root system has not been treated during cultivation.
  • Saplings – plants grown from seedlings or vegetative propagation for which the root system has been treated (by pricking, nursing, root cultivating, transferring into covers). The aboveground part is up to 70 cm.
  • Half grown plants – plants grown usually by double treatment of root system (nursing, undercutting of root system, transferring into covers or combination of these treatments). The aboveground part is from 51 cm to 120 cm.
  • Full grown plants – plants grown usually by double nursing, undercutting of root system, transferring into covers or combination of these treatments. The aboveground part is from 121 cm to 250 cm.
